Yashar Garayev. Mirza Alakbar Sabir. Bakı, Yazıçı, 1988.
The history of ancient Azerbaijan's poetry, and particularly that of the recent past century is closely associated with the name and tradi-tions of Sabir. After the epos "Dada Gorgud" and Nizami's "Khamse", Fizuli's "Divan" and M. F. Akhundov's "Tamsilat" ("The Come-dies"), Sabir's "Hophopname" crowns the great book of literature as its summit achieve-ment and the most brilliant chapter. The artis-lic thought of Azerbaijan people found its fullest epic completeness and perfection in Nizami's writings. Fizuli's works have been the exemplars of lyric to this day, while the satiri-cal trend in Azerbaijan literature is inseparab-le from the name of Sabir, the true symbol of Azerbaijan realistic poetry, Sabir was a poet-innovator, he set up an inspiring example of the creative attitude to classical traditions, rejecting well-trodden ways in poetry.
