The proposal to establish an international organization of academies was put forward by the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres in 1919. In consequence of this proposal the representatives of the academies of 11 countries (Belgium, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Russia and the United States) met in Paris on October 18th, 1919, and declared their adherence to the international academic organization and acceptance of the regulations governing the new association
